FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State women's basketball head coach Jaime White announced the signing of transfer Tory Jacobs on Tuesday. The point guard joins the Bulldogs after playing one season at Minnesota.
"We couldn't be happier to welcome Tory to the Bulldog family. With length and versatility, Tory will be an immediate impact at the point guard spot when she becomes eligible," White said.
Jacobs will not be eligible until the 2016-17 season as she will sit out the 2015-16 season in accordance with NCAA transfer rules.
The 5-10 point guard from Dallas, Texas, played sparingly for the Golden Gophers during her one season in the Twin Cities, averaging just under seven minutes per game in 29 contests. Prior to Minnesota, Jacobs was named the 2013-14 6-5A Offensive Player of the Year and was an All-District First Team selection while playing for Irving MacArthur High School.
According to espnW HoopGurlz, Jacobs was a three-star recruit in the class of 2014, and Scouts, Inc. gave her a grade of 90.
"Tory gives you big-guard size. She is from Texas, which is a deep state for recruiting," Dan Olson of Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and espnW HoopGurlz said of Jacobs prior to her entering college. "She has a college-ready body and can handle the ball in transition. She has a scorer's mentality, she is great off the dribble, and she is a versatile defender. I think she is going to be a nice player."
As a junior, Jacobs earned All-State, All-Region, and District and team Most Valuable Player honors after leading the Dallas-Ft. Worth metro area in overall scoring with a total of 691 points in 33 games (20.9 ppg) to help MacArthur to a 24-9 record and reach as high as No. 8 in the state rankings. Jacobs claimed All-District recognition all four years in high school, garnering second team accolades as a sophomore and honorable mention as a freshman after helping MacArthur to a state championship in 2011.
