FRESNO, Calif. -- Fresno State head women's tennis coach Ryan Stotland has announced the signing of transfer Galina Bykova to the 2015-16 class. Bykova joins the Bulldogs after competing for Idaho the past two seasons.
"Galina is a great addition to our team. She wants to make an immediate impact on the court and off the court," Stotland said. "We have played against Galina couple years now and are very excited to have her on our team now. She has proven herself as a great tennis player and it has been a pleasure getting to know her off the court as well. I know the team will be excited to add another great individual and tennis player to our already strong tennis team!"
The native of St. Petersburg, Russia was the 2015 Big Sky Player of the Year as she compiled a 26-9 singles record. Bykova posted a 17-5 mark in dual matches and an unblemished 11-0 record in Big Sky play. Her best win of the season came against Oregon's Nina Rose as she knocked off the No. 71-ranked player in country, 6-3, 6-3.
In her first season with the Vandals, she was named the 2014 WAC Freshman of the Year and earning herself a spot on the All-WAC Singles First Team and All-WAC Doubles Second Team.
In her two years at Idaho, Bykova, who will have two years of eligibility remaining, has compiled 52 singles and 42 doubles wins. She has helped lead Idaho to consecutive conference championships and appearances in the NCAA Tournament.
