FRESNO, Calif.- For the first time in NCAA history, 480 female student-athletes were nominated for the 2015 NCAA Woman of the Year award, with former senior Brenna Moss representing Fresno State softball on the record breaking list of nominees.
The award goes to the female student-athlete who demonstrates outstanding performance on and off the field including athletics, academics, service in the community and leadership among their teammates.
Moss is one of 207 Division I selections, with 93 competing at the Division II level and 180 representing Division III softball. Submission is granted to the top performing athlete who has exhausted their collegiate career and the nomination process is voted on by member colleges and universities of the NCAA.
The four-year starting center fielder led the Bulldogs to their first ever Mountain West championship during the 2015 season where the `Dogs snapped a three-year postseason dry spell, earning the automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Eugene Regional. At the season's end, Moss has continued her softball career professionally as a member of the Chicago Bandits after being the first Bulldog selected during the National Fast Pitch College Draft since 2005.
After thorough assessment, all conference nominees are submitted to the Woman of the Year selection committee who ultimately choose 10 female student-athletes from each division. The top three athletes from each division will be announced in the month of September and the NCAA will name the 2015 Woman of the Year winner on Oct. 18 at the annual award ceremony in Indianapolis, where the Top 30 honorees will be celebrated.
