FRESNO, Calif. - GoBulldogs.com caught up with transfer guard Tory Jacobs for our web series, "Bulldogs 5-On-5". Throughout the month of September, the series will feature the women's basketball team's seven newcomers.
Q: What was the biggest thing you learned last year about Division I basketball while playing at Minnesota compared to playing in high school?
A: You have to compete and work hard every day. You have to give a 110% every day.
Q: What were you able to take away from being a part of a state championship in 2011 that helped you develop throughout your career?
A: I was the youngest on the team when we won state. I had to work extra hard to get the respect from my teammates. Winning my first year in high school helped me stay hungry and try to win another one.
Q: You were known as a scorer in high school, leading the DFW area with 20.9 points per game as a junior, would you describe yourself more as a scoring point guard or a pass-first point guard?
A: I actually like to pass first, but in high school, my team needed me to score in order for us to have a legitimate chance to win. I like to score, however as the point guard I make sure I am keeping all my teammates involved as well.
Q: Who do you try to model your game after?
A: A little after Chris Paul and Kyrie Irving. Chris Paul because he can control the game without scoring a lot. Kyrie Irving because he's a scoring point guard that can create his own shot at ease.
Q: Having to sit out the 2015-16 season due to NCAA transfer rules, where do you see yourself being able to make an impact on the team?
A: Helping the point guards by telling them what I see on the bench and going hard against my teammates in practice as well. That will not only help me but help them as well.
