FRESNO, Calif. - Following a quarterfinal finish at last season's National Collegiate Equestrian Championship, Fresno State was picked to finish fifth in the annual NCEA preseason poll, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Coming off a season highlighted by a United Equestrian Conference (UEC) championship and newly hired head coach Eric Hubbard, the Bulldogs look to continue their success against the nation's top talent. Fresno State will face two top five programs this season, which include No. 1 Georgia (Oct. 3) and No. 3 Baylor (March 18) and also take on four other ranked teams - No. 7 Texas A&M (Oct. 24), No. 8 TCU (Feb. 5), No. 9 SMU (Feb. 6) and No. 10 New Mexico State (Oct. 10 and 23).
As determined by the NCEA Selection Committee, defending Southeastern Conference Champion Georgia was favored to take first while South Carolina was slated second coming off an NCEA Championship last season.
As the No. 6 seed heading into the 2015 championship last April, Fresno State tied for fifth place and finished the season ranked No. 7 by the NCEA. The Bulldogs successful season led to a top 10 preseason ranking for the first time under Hubbard's helm.
