Bulldogs XC competes well at Sundodger Invitational

Seattle, Wash. - A week after opening the season hosting the Fresno State Invitational, the Bulldogs men's and women's cross country teams continued their early-season slate competing against a deep field in both races on Saturday at the Sundodger Invitational hosted by the University of Washington.
The women got the racing started at Lincoln Park competing in the 6K race matching up with eight fellow Division I opponents to finish seventh out of nine teams. Leading the charge for the second consecutive week was sophomore Mackenzie Landa who led the 'Dogs with a 10th-place finish and clocked a time of 21:05.35 to score six team points for the Bulldogs.
Rounding out the scoring for the 'Dogs was Brittany Laygo placing 37th in a time of 22:21.20, Cristal Rivera Pedraza (40th-22:24.09), Meagan Paracholski (48th-22:35.95) and Raven Nunez in (79th-24:06.16). Jennifer Viramontes also competed for the women coming in 82nd (24:12.91).
The women finished with 163 points as host Washington, ranked 14th in the nation, scored 17 points. The Huskies were followed by Washington State with 88 points, fellow by Mountain West conference foe Nevada (93 pts.), Portland State (130 pts.), Oregon State (141 pts.) and Seattle (156 pts.). Th 'Dogs were followed by Tulane with 171 points and Hawaii (195) to round out the field.
On the men's side, Cooper Gill again led the way for the second straight week as the top Bulldogs finisher as the Stockton, Calif., native finished fourth clocking a time of 24:20.63. Matt Kwiatkowski finished 23rd in his first race of the season runnng 25:06.21. Rounding out the scoring for the Bulldogs were Nathan Esparza in 27th (25:09.76) followed by Efren Reyes in 29th (25;16.90) and Uriel Cabanas in 42nd (25:31.13). Also competing for Fresno State were Joel Gonzalez (25:43.18) and Clay Celum (26:02.75).
The men finished fourth as a team in the Open Division placing fourth out of 26 teams with 114 points. Trinity Western (47), Simon Fraser (95), Western Washington (108) were the top three team finishers.
The Bulldogs return to action next Saturday (Sept. 26) at the Stanford Invitational.
