Pre-Game Notes
Fresno State captains: 22, 59, 96
Fresno State won the toss, deferred to the second half. Bulldogs to defend the north end zone.
1st Quarter
- On the fourth play of the game, redshirt freshman Jamire Jordan caught a 25-yard pass from Zack Greenlee that was good for a touchdown. The scoring play was Jordan's first career catch.
- Then later in the quarter, at the 1:58 mark, Josiah Blandin caught a 32-yard touchdown pass. Like Jordan, Blandin's touchdown reception also came on his first catch as a Bulldog.
- Fresno State scored 14 points in the first quarter. Last season the Bulldogs averaged just 4.8 points in the first quarter of games, which in 2014 ranked as the third-lowest scoring total in the Mountain West.
2nd Quarter
- Chad Olsen scored on a four-yard touchdown reception at 11:53.
- Olsen's touchdown pass came from true freshman quarterback Chason Virgil. He became the first Bulldog quarterback this century to throw a touchdown pass in his true freshman year.
- The Bulldogs were 8-of-11 converting third-down plays in the first half and held Abilene Christian to just 1-of-7.
3rd Quarter
- At 9:20, Marteze Waller had a 38-yard rush that was his second run of over 35 yards in the game. Last season, Waller had eight rushes that went for over 35 yards.
- As Claudell Louis hit quarter Parker McKenzie as he threw, Jeff Camilli picked off his pass at 8:45 to give the `Dogs the ball at the ACU 47-yard line. It was Camilli's first career interception and the first turnover for the Bulldog defense in the game.
- Marteze Waller's sevent-yard run at 7:47 pushed him over 100 yards rushing in the game, his ninth career 100-yard rushing game.
- Kody Kroening hit a 40-yard field goal at 6:27 to push Fresno State's lead up to 24-7.
- Ejiro Ederaine recorded his first sack of the season and 13th of his career at the five-minute mark of the quarter. It was Fresno State's third sack of the game.
- Greenlee hit Chad Olsen on a 31-yard touchdown pass at 2:38, giving Olsen his second career two-touchdown game.
- Olsen's 31-yard touchdown catch is the longest by any Bulldog tight end since Bear Pascoe's 75-yard TD on Oct. 14, 2006.
4th Quarter
- Ejiro Ederaine intercepted his first career pass at 14:54.
Final Notes
- Marteze Waller, who in 2014 ranked No. 12 in the nation for any tailback with 200 or more carries with 6.1 yards per carry. In Thursday's opener he averaged 7.0 yards per carry, finishing with 154 yards rushing on 22 carries.
- After Thursday's game, Chad Olsen now has 15 career receptions and six of them have been for touchdowns.
- Fresno State finished the game with four sacks. It wasn't until the fourth game of the 2014 season that the `Dogs posted four sacks in a game. They did have four or more just three times in 14 games last year.
- The Bulldogs improve to 22-3 under DeRuyter when accumulating 400+ yards of total offense.
- The `Dogs rushed for 225 yards as a team on Thursday and move to 13-0 under DeRuyter when running for more than 200 yards.
