Catching up with sophomore guard Jordanna Porter.
FRESNO, Calif. - GoBulldogs.com caught up with sophomore guard Jordanna Porter for our web series, "Bulldogs 5-On-5". During the days leading up to the start of fall practice, the series will feature the women's basketball team's six newcomers.

Q:Â How is it having fellow Texans on the team?
A: It's great because right off the back we have things in common and we all can relate to something. Plus our style of play is kind of the same coming from Texas, and it's always good to know somebody when coming to a new school.
Â
Q: What is the best thing that you have gotten from basketball?Â
A: Competing, working hard, and communication. I have realized that competing, working hard, and communication has transferred over into the classroom and in other things off the court.
Â
Q: What was your first memory of playing basketball?
A: My first memory of playing basketball was when I was four years old and I played with 5-7 year olds and my coach was one of the best coaches I had. To this day I still keep in contact with her. She coached me so well and I will never forget her.
Â
Q:Â What was the biggest thing you learned last year about Division I basketball while playing at Utah compared to playing in high school?
A: The biggest thing I learned that was different from high school is the practices, games, the level of competition, and that you always have to do more than you think you are doing. In high school you can get by with not putting in extra work, but in college there is always somebody who plays the same position as you or is getting more playing time than you. There is always somebody in the gym or always doing extra conditioning, or always lifting. You can't settle for the minimum. With games and practices, you must know the plays, you must be in shape, and when it comes game time and practice time you have to be dialed in, no goofing around, no excuses, no talking back, and no being late. It's imperative that you're always ready at all times because you never know when it's your time to shine.
Â
Q:Â Having to sit out the 2016-17 season due to NCAA transfer rules, where do you see yourself being able to make an impact on the team?
A: Having to sit out this season I see myself helping the team by pushing them in practice everyday and having the mindset of "I am playing this year." That means not taking days off, doing my part, and in practice pushing my teammates and making them better, especially when I am on the grey squad. I also see myself making an impact by positive attitudes, growth mindsets and always making the team better.

California Quick Shots:
Beach or Mountains? Both
Big city or Small Town? Both
Clippers, Kings, Lakers or Warriors? None. I'm a Heat and Cavaliers fan.
