Stloukalova into quarterfinals at Cal Nike Invite

Berkeley, Calif. – Fresno State's Katerina Stloukalova led the Bulldogs on the opening day of the Cal Nike Invitational, earning a spot in the Saturday's quarterfinals.

Competing in the Blue Singles draw, the freshman picked up a pair of straight-set wins, including the first over seventh-seeded Kristen Wiley of UCLA. Stloukalova will face No. 62-ranked Denise Starr of Cal, the top seed in the tournament, on Saturday morning.

The 'Dogs went 5-5 in singles play on day one with wins coming from Stloukalova, Juliane Triebe, Abbey Watanabe and Emma Wilson. Triebe and Wilson paired up to earn the team's lone doubles victory, an 8-5 defeat of San Francisco's Hanna Borjeson and Shanna Dos Santos in the first round of the Gold Doubles draw.
