Senior Salute on Wednesday at the Save Mart Center
Before the 'Dogs match against Utah State on Wednesday, the program will honor this year's three seniors for their contributions to the volleyball program. Maggie Eppright, Brooke Legaux & Aleisha Coates will each play their final match as a Bulldog at the Save Mart Center as the group is 27-27 at home over their four years at Fresno State. The 'Dogs are 4-4 on Senior Night in Netherby-Sewell's tenure with wins in 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2014.
A closer look at the 2016 Bulldog Senior Class
Maggie Eppright: 123 matches played (T-8th in program history), 451 sets played (4th), 1,745 digs (2nd), 3.87 digs per set (2nd), 251 assists, 77 service aces
Brooke Legaux: 113 matches played, 327 sets played, 1,834 assists (10th most in program history), 107 kills, 29 service aces, 430 digs
Aleisha Coates: 59 matches played, 218 sets played, 669 kills, 63 service aces, 413 digs, 25 solo blocks & 70 block assists
The Bulldogs return home this week for Senior Night on Wednesday evening hosting Utah State at the Save Mart Center. The 'Dogs played their final two out-of-state Mountain West opponents last week traveling to MW-leading Boise State on Thursday and Air Force on Saturday. The 'Dogs fell in straight sets to the Broncos as sophomore middle blocker Taylor Slover had a team-high seven kills while Brielle Hefner added six. Senior libero Maggie Eppright added nine digs, redshirt freshman Madelyn Halteman added 19 assists and junior Lauren Torres had two blocks.
On Saturday, the 'Dogs went to Air Force where they battled the Falcons tough, but dropped the match in straight sets. The 'Dogs were held to a season-low 27 kills as a team and had only a .031 hitting percentage; its second-lowest mark of the season. Slover and Aleisha Coates had a team-high seven kills apiece while Eppright had a team-best 10 digs and a pair of service aces.
'Dogs vs. Utah State History
The 'Dogs lead the all-time series with Utah State 14-13 winning both pair of matches in 2015 as this will be the two teams first meeting this season. The only MW school the 'Dogs do not play on the road this season, Fresno State enters Wednesday's meeting with the Aggies on a three-game winning streak in the series and have won four in a row over Utah State in Fresno.
Since Utah State joined the MW in 2013, the 'Dogs are 4-2 winning all three matches at home. Under Netherby-Sewell, the 'Dogs are 9-6 overall against the Aggies having additional met nine times from 2008-11 as members of the WAC. The 'Dogs went 5-4 in that four-year stretch with a 3-1 mark at home.
A look at the Utah State Aggies
Utah State is 12-15 overall on the season with a 7-9 mark in the Mountain West entering the week in the RPI and seventh in the Mountain West, half a game behind San Diego State for sixth. The Aggies are coming off a pair of road matches at UNLV and New Mexico last week falling in straight sets to the Rebels before rallying from a 0-2 deficit to defeat the Lobos in five sets on Saturday. The Aggies have won four of their last seven MW matches dating back to Oct. 20 at home against SDSU.
The Aggies currently rank third in the Mountain West in digs (13.77 avg./s), fourth in assists (12.21 avg./s), fifth in hitting percentage (.231), sixth in kills (12.83 avg./s), eighth in blocks (2.06 avg./s) and ninth in service aces (1.08 avg./s). Individually, senior setter Erica Moscoso is fourth in the MW in assists (10.64 avg./s), senior Hannah Gleason is fifth in digs (3.85 avg./s), senior Kaylie Kamalu-Smith is sixth in kills (3.49) and seventh in points per set (3.85). Junior Lauren Anderson rounds out the top Aggie individuals checking in seventh in the MW in kills (3.43).
Fresno State ranks 16th in the nation in service aces per set; 27th in service aces
The 'Dogs currently lead the MW and rank 16th in the nation in service aces per set (1.67). The Bulldogs also lead the MW in aces (167 - 27th in the nation), rank 7th in blocks (2.06), 8th in kills (12.23) & are 9th in hitting pct. (.197).
Bulldog Individual leaders in the Mountain West
Individually, a number of Bulldogs find themselves in the top five in the Mountain West. Junior Jacqueline Hutcheson leads the conference in service aces with 50 to rank 8th in the nation and also leads the conference & ranks 11th in the country in aces per set (0.50). Coates is fourth in the MW in points per set (4.20 avg./s), fifth in service aces (35) and sixth in kills per set (3.51) and aces per set (0.35).
Eppright closing in on Top 5 all-time in career digs in Mountain West history
Eppright, who was named First Team CoSIDA Academic All-District on Nov. 3, moved into the Mountain West top 10 all-time list in digs on Oct. 1. She currently sits in seventh place all-time with 1,745 career digs and with  two matches remaining, she is 34 digs shy of moving into fifth-place currently held by Allison Davies (UNLV, 2011-14) on the all-time list.
Slover closing in on joining the 100-kill club
Taylor Slover is eight kills shy of being the seventh Bulldog with 100-plus kills this season. With two matches remaining, if Slover is able to reach that milestone, it will be the first time since 2011 that seven 'Dogs have 100 or more kills in a season.
Hutcheson ranks third in aces per set & tied for eighth in single-season service aces
Hutcheson, who has appeared in all 100 sets and 27 matches this season, ranks tied for third in a single season in aces per set (0.50) & eighth in service aces with 50.
Fighting Spirit Award
The Fighting Spirit Award was introduced to the Fresno State volleyball program by Netherby-Sewell in 2008. The award originated at Hofstra by Hall of Fame coach Fran Kalafer, and is presented to the individual or team who best defeats adversity each week and collectively at the season's end. So far this season, Maggie Eppright leads the 'Dogs with eight weekly honors followed by Aleisha Coates with seven.
