Fresno State adds Australian Bree Delaney, Texan Aly Gamez and Oregonian Maddi Utti.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women's basketball head coach Jaime White announced the signing of three student-athletes during this year's early signing period. The group includes Bree Delaney, Aly Gamez and Maddi Utti.
Delaney continues the tradition of Australians joining the Bulldogs. The 5-10 guard was named the Australian Schools MVP in 2015 and was a captain during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The Sydney, Australia native was a member of the New South Wales State Team five straight years (2012-16) and was a part of the Sydney Comets Representative Team from 2008-2016, earning MVP honors in 2013 and 2015.
During her four years at Monte Sant' Angelo Mercy College, Delaney led her team to first-place finishes in each season. She was named the Junior Player of the Year in 2016 as she averaged 20 points, eight assists and three steals per game.
"Bree is a tall guard who can play anything from the 1-3," White said. "She has great 3-point range and understands the game. She will be a very good addition to our offensive style."
Gamez joins the Bulldogs from MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas. The 5-6 point guard is a three-star recruit who earned an 88 scouts grade from ESPN. As a captain, she led MacArthur team to a district championship, was a two-time first team all-district selection and earned a spot in the TGCA All-Star game. Gamez will be one of five Bulldogs on the 2017-18 roster from Texas, one of three from Irving, and one of two from MacArthur as she joins Tory Jacobs.
"Aly is a crafty point guard who can score and push the tempo," White said. "She comes from a great program at MacArthur under Suzanne Oelschlegel that has helped prepare her for the college game."
Utti, a 5-10 forward, comes to Fresno State from Seaside, Ore., where she is a three-time Oregon 4A All-State selection, earning first team honors as a sophomore during the 2014-15 season after averaging 17.6 points, 5.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 4.6 steals per game. A three-time all-league performer, she was the 2014-15 Cowapa League Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year. As a freshman, she was named Cowapa Co-MVP and was selected to the Oregon 4A All State Tournament first team.
With one year remaining, she has set Seaside High School records for career records for points (1,283), assists (343) and steals (344), and season records for points (475), assists (146) and steals (123). Outside of basketball, Utti was a two-time Cowapa League first team selection in soccer (2013, 2014) and in volleyball (2015, 2016).
"Maddi is a versatile stretch forward who will bring a valuable defensive presence to our team," White said. "Combined with an exceptional work ethic, her athleticism allows her to be stopper on the defensive end."
