COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State center Bego Faz Davalos was named Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. The sophomore was instrumental last week in wins over Air Force and New Mexico as the Bulldogs improved to 14-2 in conference.
At Air Force on Feb. 24, Faz Davalos broke the MW single season blocks record with 106th, a mark that surpassed the 105 that New Mexico's Jordan Adams recorded during the 2000-01 season. The sophomore scored 13 of her game-high 18 points, grabbed five rebounds, blocked three shots and swiped two steals in the second half as the Bulldogs overcame a halftime deficit for the eighth time in conference play.
Against New Mexico on Feb. 27, the center scored a team-high 17 points to go with six blocks. Her sixth block of the game matched her MW single season block record for conference games only which she set last season (70). Faz also recorded a career-high 9-of-9 free throws during the eight-point victory.
The weekly honor is the second of her career after previously earning the award on Jan. 11, 2016.
