EUGENE, Ore. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team dropped its neutral site game 12-5 to George Mason in Eugene, Ore., on Friday evening at Pape Field.
"We had opportunities that we didn't execute," Fresno State head coach Jessica Giglio said. "We kept fouling and it was hard to get momentum going. Our defense needed to take more risks. We were only down by three at halftime. We needed to finish the game."
George Mason led 5-2 at the half, but came out more aggressive and outshot Fresno State 20-7 in the second half.
The Bulldogs (3-4, 0-2 MPSF) were led offensively by freshman Sarah Bloise's two goals, including the first score of the game within the first three minutes. Sophomore Nicole Ortlieb, junior Caroline Dineen-Carlson and senior Anjelica Fuccillo also tallied goals for Fresno State.
Ortlieb leads the team with 16 goals on the season and has scored in seven-straight games; Fuccillo became Fresno State's all-time leader in free-position goals; Redshirt junior goalkeeper Meganne Weissenfels tied her season-high with nine saves.
The Patriots (2-1, 0-0 Atlantic 10) recorded more shots (32-16), ground balls (20-17) and draw controls (11-8). The Bulldogs notched more fouls (52-20) and turnovers (15-13).
