FRESNO, Calif. - Only one day shy of the Fresno State equestrian tri-meet at the Student Horse Center, GoBulldogs.com caught up with senior Morgan Foster on her collegiate experience as a Bulldog.
This year, Foster earned her respective point in Horsemanship during the annual Red vs. Blue Scrimmage at home on Sept. 26. She faced her first ranked opponent during an exhibition round versus second-ranked Georgia on Feb. 27.
Fans can catch Foster and the rest of the ninth-ranked Bulldogs in action on their home dirt starting Friday, March 18 during a tri-meet with No. 4 Baylor and South Dakota State at the Student Horse Center.
Q: Why did you chose Fresno State?
Foster: The true deciding factor was when I found out Fresno State had an equestrian team. My passion for riding and desire to stay close to home is what made this a perfect decision for me. I also chose Fresno state because two of my cousins graduated from here and they always talked about how much fun they had. Plus, they kept my closet stocked with Fresno State clothes.
Q: What has competing at Fresno State taught you the most?
Foster: Competing at Fresno State has taught me the importance of teamwork. I have learned that taking our team to the next level takes the hard work and support from every single girl, every single day, in and out of the arena.
Q: Who has had the most influence on your athletic career and why?
Foster: My parents have had the most influence on my career. They have always tried to give me every opportunity that they could to help me grow as a rider, from teaching me the proper care of my horses at such a young age, to paying for the countless hours of lessons as I continue following my dream.
Q: What is your most memorable moment as a Bulldog?
Foster: The most memorable moment as a Bulldog was the scrimmage against Cal Poly in 2014. I had one of the best rides I have ever had, but that isn't what stood out the most to me. The best part about that day was the support of my teammates and how proud of me they were. The words of encouragement that I heard on that day have stuck in my head and will never be forgotten.
Q: What/who ignited your riding career?
Foster: Most definitely my mom, she is the reason I became so passionate about this sport and these animals. She had me on a horse before I could walk, which is how I became hooked. She always made sure that I had horses to ride and pushed me to become the rider that I am today.
Q: What is something that most people don't know about you?
Foster: Most people don't know that it terrifies me to take a shower with no music playing in the bathroom.
Q: How would your teammates describe you?
Foster: My teammates describe me as a funny, hardworking and outgoing person that is dedicated in everything that I do.
Q: What is your favorite genre of music or song to listen to before competing?
Foster: Songs that are very upbeat, hip-hop or pop songs that fill me with excitement and energy.
Q: Which college courses did you enjoy the most at Fresno State and why?
Foster: The college course I have enjoyed the most here at Fresno state would have to be my welding class last fall. I enjoyed making different things out of metal, whether it was just a box or it was a candle holder.
Q: What are your favorite hobbies outside of riding?
Foster: Some of my favorite hobbies are going hunting with my dad, taking my truck for a drive and riding quads and dirt bikes around our family ranch.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
Foster: I will graduate with a degree in agriculture education with an emphasis in communication. I will most likely start by working with my dad in our almond orchard to gain experience. However, my ultimate goal is to find a job in agriculture where I can work outdoors and help farmers and their businesses grow. I fell in love with major because it opens so many doors that keep me close to my background in agriculture.
