Bland, Hopkins set all-time marks at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. - After two individuals set Fresno State school records on Friday at the Stanford Invitational, Keane Bland and Kayla Hopkins etched their names into the school's all-time top 10 in their respective events on Saturday.
Bland recorded the fifth-best men's 110-meter hurdles time (14.17) in school history and Hopkins notched the 10th-best women's discus throw (49.88m/163-08) in school history. While Hopkins stands alone in 10th, Bland will share fifth with Richard Holmes who also clocked the identical mark in 1990.
Hopkins discus toss was the best among 12 individuals competing in the collegiate flight. Teammate Yazmin Torres finished second with a 48.82m (160-02) throw.
Bland, who advanced past the prelims with a 14.31-second qualifying time on Friday, finished third in Saturday's finals.
Others in action on the final day of the Stanford Invitational were Shane Atkinson in the pole vault (4.75m), Shakira Lewis in the 200m (25.46) and the 4x400 relay team (3:37.26).
Next up, select student athletes will travel to Waco, Texas for the Baylor Invitational on April 9, the next meet in California is the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 15.

FRESNO, Calif. - While a select few were competing at the Stanford Invitational, a large contingent of the Fresno State track and field team stayed back and took on the Fresno Pacific Sunbird Invitational on Saturday.
Fresno State earned two wins at the FPU Invite by way of Chastity Fellows (200m) and Joseph Munoz (shot put).
Fellows did so by setting a personal best time of 25.11 in the 200. In addition to Fellows, three more student athletes from the women's side set new bests, which included Kayla Gibson in the 400m (1:00.27), Breana Begin in the 800m (2:32.74) and India Hines in the 100m hurdles (15.28).
The throws team also had a stellar day along with Munoz winning the shot put with a throw of 14.62m (47-11.75) as the women's side saw three set personal bests.
Manpreet Grewal registered the team's best hammer mark this season with a personal best throw of 50.13m (164-06). Kylie Coleman also set a PR with a 46.06m (151-01) mark.
Vanja Spaic, a javelin specialist for the `Dogs, recorded a 44.53m (146-01) to edge out her previous best mark of 44.46m.
Next up, select student athletes will travel to Waco, Texas for the Baylor Invitational on April 9, the next meet in California is the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 15.
