No. 41 'Dogs close MW season undefeated

RENO, Nev. - With its eyes set on the top seed at the Mountain West championship for the third consecutive year, No. 41 Fresno State wasted no time on Saturday afternoon, defeating Nevada 7-0 at Caughlin Club. At 4-0 in MW play, the Bulldogs finished the conference season undefeated for the third straight year and pushed their regular-season conference win streak to 17 matches.
The doubles match between the No. 30 and No. 62 ranked teams in the country went unfinished at 3-3 as Fresno State cruised on courts two and three. Sofya Malysheva and Olivia Noble finished first with a 6-2 win, just before Anneka and Sophie Watts won their the 21st match of the season together with a 6-1 victory at No. 2.
The Watts twins then made quick work of their opponents in singles play to push the Bulldogs within one point of clinching the match. In the No. 2 spot, Sophie Watts captured her 97th career singles win by defeating Sheila Morales, 6-1, 6-2. Anneka Watts then topped Sara Korzeniecki 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 position.
Mayar Sherif Ahmed clinched the dual match at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Claudia Herrero. The win was her team-leading 27th of the season.
The Bulldogs will now await the announcement of the MW championship bracket. The conference tournament is set to begin on April 28.
