FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State equestrian program is pleased to announce its fourth signee for the 2016-17 academic year, Western rider Paige Barton.
"We are very excited to have Paige become a Bulldog," head coach Eric Hubbard said. "She is a talented rider and her success in the show arena resembles how hard she works as well as her dedication to the sport."
The Oakdale, Calif., native will debut her Bulldog career in the fall of 2016 as a freshman interested in becoming an animal science major with a pre veterinarian emphasis.
"I love that Fresno State offers the opportunity to continue my passion of riding as well as pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian," Barton said. "When I visited the campus to watch the last equestrian home game of the season, I was able to meet the team and was awestruck by the camaraderie in the way they interacted. I also really appreciated how friendly, kind, and helpful the coaches have been."
In recent history, Barton was named the 2016 Cactus Reining Classic Reserve High Point Champion in the youth 14-18 and rookie divisions. Her success in 2015 was highlighted with a Reserve Championship in the Tamarack Ranch Youth Derby at the Low Roller Reining Classic and High-Point Championship in Reining by the Bay.
Barton rounds of her highly decorated youth resume with a pair of Limited Non Pro Reserve Champion finishes at the 2015 North American Affiliate Championship and NRHA Futurity Show. Locally, she boats multiple West Coast Reining Horse Association Championships.
Outside of the arena, Barton has volunteered her time at the Oakdale High School biannual blood drive and got involved with the Pioneer Equine Hospital and Premier Equine Center through her high school's occupational program.
