`Dogs set sights for Regional opener

LOS ANGELES - Fresno State softball arrived to Easton Stadium for the NCAA Regional official practice on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs (41-10-1) will square off with Cal State Fullerton (43-14) on Friday at 3 p.m., for what is their 32nd all-time NCAA Division I Softball Championship appearance.
The trip began with an on-campus sendoff on Wednesday afternoon as the `Dogs loaded the bus to head down south. After a night's rest, Thursday's organized practice got underway courtesy of tournament-host UCLA. Preparation included two hours of hitting in the cages, live at-bats and on-field reps.
The Los Angeles Regional will be streamed live on the Pac-12 Network, and fans can tune into 940 AM/790 AM ESPN Radio for a play-by-play analysis of the action from Los Angeles, Calif. For in-game updates, follow Fresno State softball's Twitter account.
The Regional round of the NCAA Championships are constructed of 32 Division I programs which received an automatic bid, while the remaining 32 teams were selected on an at-large basis to make up the 64-team playing field. The 16 winning programs during the four-team, double-elimination tournament will advance to the Super Regionals on May 26-29.
The 2016 NCAA WCWS will be held at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium - OGE Energy Field in Oklahoma City, from June 2-8. This is the 35th annual NCAA Division I Softball Championship and the 26th time hosted in Oklahoma City at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
