FRESNO, Calif. - GoBulldogs.com caught up with freshman guard Kristina Cavey for our web series, "Bulldogs 5-On-5". During the days leading up to the start of fall practice, the series will feature the women's basketball team's six newcomers.
Q: Who do you try to model your game after?
A:Â Early on I tried to play like Larry Bird, practice hard and be able to score many different ways. I also watch Klay Thompson closely and try to model his style of play.
Â
Q: What part of your game have you been working on most during the offseason?
A: I have been trying to improve my shot, especially working on quickening my shot release and working on expanding my range. Also I'm really trying to strengthen my on ball and help defense.
Â
Q: What will you be able to bring to the team?
A:Â I want to be to be a good teammate, work real hard in practice and be an efficient scorer who rebounds and passes well.
Â
Q: What did you learn from your experiences competing in the 3x3 National Tournament at the US Olympic Training Center?
A: I learned that my team and I were able to compete with some very elite players. I also learned the importance of spreading the court and moving efficiently to get open which is very important in 3v3.
Â
Q: How did time competing in track help you develop your abilities on the basketball court?
A: It helped my strength and conditioning a lot which has helped me in stay in basketball shape and become stronger and faster. I was also able to learn how to run correctly and focus on my technique which helps me conserve energy. High-jumping all transitioned well into different aspects of basketball.
