Opening Tip
• Fresno State returns to the road this week as the Bulldogs travel to Southern California to face a pair of Big West foes in UC Santa Barbara and CSUN.
• With two road games this week, the 'Dogs will have played four true consecutive road games for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
• Both games will broadcast on BigWest.TV. Randy Rosenbloom will have the call on Thursday for 790 AM ESPN2.
Bulldog Bones
• Candice White is the lone Bulldog to score double figures in all four games this season, reaching a season-high 20 points last time out. The junior guard also leads the 'Dogs in steals (2.2) and is second in rebounding (5.2).
• White is one of seven players nationally to be perfect from the free-throw line (15-of-15).
• Fresno State entered the season as the 11th-youngest team in the NCAA in relation to percentage of underclassmen.
• The 'Dogs added four freshmen during the offseason. Freshmen have accounted for 40.5 percent of the team's scoring this year. All four are averaging at least 17 minutes per game.
• On Nov. 25, Maddi Utti recorded the Bulldogs' first double-double of the season at Texas State with season highs of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Fresno State vs. UC Santa Barbara
• Fresno State is 18-9 all-time versus UC Santa Barbara.
• The two teams squared off last season as the Gauchos came away with a 50-49 win on a shot at the buzzer.
A look at UC Santa Barbara
• UCSB is off to a 1-5 record to start the season and has dropped its last five contests. The Gauchos' lone victory came at Northern Arizona back on Nov. 10 in a high-scoring affair as UC Santa Barbara won 96-93 over the Lumberjacks.
• Forward Drew Edelman is the Gauchos' main threat on the offensive end. The redshirt senior is averaging 14.8 points (50.7 FG%, 80.8 FT%) and 8.8 rebounds in 27.3 minutes per game.
• Aliceah Hernandez is UCSB's sharpshooter thus far as the sophomore has nailed 14-of-28 from 3-point range on the season.
Fresno State vs. Cal State Northridge
• The Bulldogs are 21-4 all-time versus CSUN.
• The two squads clashed last season at the Save Mart Center with the Matadors erasing a 15-point deficit to stun the 'Dogs 61-57.
A look at CSUN
• Cal State Northridge owns a 1-5 record, but is coming off a 66-63 win at home versus Arizona.
• The Matadors are limiting their opponents to 39.2 percent shooting and hold a plus-7.8 rebound margin through six games.
• CSUN's catalyst on both ends of the floor is the reigning Big West Player of the Year Channon Fluker, who is averaging 15.2 points, 9.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game.
• Tessa Boagni and Serafina Maulupe also average double-figures, pouring in 12.3 and 10.0 points per game, respectively.
Living on the road
With back-to-back two-game road trips, Fresno State is in the midst of its longest stretch of true road games since the Bulldogs were on the road for six straight games from Dec. 14, 2012 through Jan. 9, 2013.
• The last time the 'Dogs played four consecutive games away from home was the 2017 Mountain West Tournament.
Taking what's FREE
Somewhat of a lost art in today's game, the free throw line has become a spot of consistency for Candice White. Last season, the junior strung together streaks of 15, 16 and 18 consecutive made attempts. This season, White has strung together 15 straight to open the season, three shy of what she started the 2016-17 season with.
• White is currently one of eight players tied for the national lead in free-throw percentage. Her 15 made attempts is third among the eight players who remain perfect from the line.
• White was 18-of-18 through five games last year, missing her first attempt on Nov. 30, 2016. Her 18 consecutive free throws were the most on record to start a season by a Bulldog dating back to the 1983-84 season. Records are not available prior to the 1983-84 season.
White shoots and swipes
Not only has Candice White knocked down her last 19 free throws dating back to 2016-17, the junior is also near the top of the Mountain West in steals, ranking third with 2.2 steals per game.
• White has increased her average steals per game from last season by 0.7 from 1.5 to 2.2.
Utti shines in starting role
After scoring 10 points and seven rebounds in 21 points off of the bench at UT Arlington, the freshman earned the start the following day at Texas State, posting her first double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Overall, she is averaging 6.2 points and a team-high 5.4 rebounds in 21.8 minutes per game this season.
• Utti is the first Fresno State player to record a double-double this season.
• The 5-foot-11 freshman led the 'Dogs in rebounds in both game in Texas.
Not your typical freshman
• Fresno State's four freshmen Bree Delaney, Genna Ogier, Maddi Utti and Aly Gamez are collectively averaging 20 minutes per game.
• Delaney, Ogier and Utti are all averaging over 20 minutes per game while Gamez averages 17.0 per contest.
• The four have also accounted for just over 40.5 percent of the team's scoring output so far in 2017-18.
