Utti, ‘Dogs lasso Gauchos for first road win, 64-57

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Fresno State continued its four game road trip with a 64-57 win against UC Santa Barbara on Thursday night at the Thunderdome. The Bulldogs got off to a hot start but the Gauchos would fight their way back and keep it close until the 'Dogs took control late in the fourth quarter to secure their first road win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Fresno State got off to a quick start in the opening period as Utti poured in 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting in the early going. The Bulldogs held an 18-5 lead over UCSB but the Gauchos would close the first quarter on a 10-2 run to bring the score to 20-15 in favor of the 'Dogs at the end of one.
It was a lower-scoring affair in the second as both squads tightened up on the defensive end. Utti added four more points for Fresno State to eclipse her previous career-high of 12 points before halftime as the Bulldogs led 32-26 at the break. The 'Dogs outscored UCSB 20-6 in the paint through the first two quarters.
UCSB outscored Fresno State 16-12 in the third in large part due to a 13-6 run to close the period. Even with a strong third period by the Gauchos, the 'Dogs still held a 44-42 lead heading into the fourth with the help of 6-of-12 shooting in the frame.
The Gauchos got hot from behind the arc to start the final quarter and took a 50-47 lead with just over seven minutes remaining, but Fresno State would weather the storm behind Candice White down the stretch to escape with a 64-57 victory.

Fresno State will make the trip down Highway 101 to Cal State Northridge for a Saturday matinee against the Matadors. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at the Matadome.

- Her 11 rebounds were a game-high.
- Was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line and is now 19-of-19 on the season. The streak surpasses her previous of 18 straight made free throws to open the 2016-17 season and is now the longest such streak to open a season in Bulldog history.
- Tied for second on the team with eight rebounds.
- Four blocks marks a career-high.
