‘Dogs fly out of Air Force with 72-56 win

Fresno State shoots season-high 53.7 percent from the field.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Behind a 17-3 run to open third quarter, Fresno State picked up its fifth Mountain West win with a 72-56 win over Air Force on Wednesday night at Clune Arena. The Bulldogs tandem of Bego Faz Davalos and Candice White combined for 35 of the team's 72 points.
White paced the 'Dogs with 18 points and a career-best five assists. Faz Davalos scored 17 points to go with seven rebounds and three blocks. Air Force's Mariah Forde led the Falcons with a game-high 19 points.
After an even opening quarter, the 'Dogs came out firing, knocking down five of their first six shots, including back-to-back 3's from White and Tory Jacobs as they went on a 14-0 run. Fresno State held the 12-point lead through the three-and-a-minute mark but went cold from there. The Bulldogs missed their final four shots and Katelin Noyer was tagged with a flagrant foul as Air Force ran off 10-unswered points to close the half.
As they've done since late December, Fresno State took over in the third quarter, racing out to an 11-0 run to push its lead to 39-26. With its defense forcing seven turnovers in the period, Fresno State maintained a comfortable advantage throughout the third. The 'Dogs held a held a 51-36 lead after allowing the Falcons to shoot just 16.7 percent.
Senior Anais Kirvan then went to work inside in the fourth, opening up with three straight layups as she scored eight of her career-high 10 points in the final quarter. Leading by 16, sophomore Zaria Branch closed out the game with six of her career-high eight points during the final minutes of the contest.
How It Happened: Fresno State continued its trend of dominating the third quarter, outscoring Air Force 23-10 while forcing seven turnovers and holding the Falcons to 16.7 percent from the field.
