Fresno State Baseball: Q&A with Austin Guibor

FRESNO, Calif. -Â With the start of the Bulldog baseball season only three days away, senior outfielder Austin Guibor took time with GoBulldogs.com to share some of his favorite memories while in a Bulldog uniform and what he expects for the upcoming 2017 season.
The senior outfielder made 57 starts and appeared in all 58 games during the 2016 season. Guibor hit .293 from the plate ranking third on the team with 61 hits on the year. As a junior, Guibor led the team and ranked 14th in the Mountain West with 44 runs scored and ranked second on the team with 36 RBIs.
He had a season-high four RBIs at home against Air Force (April 1) and ended the season on a team-best 17-game on-base streak. In the classroom, he picked up his third straight Academic All-MW honor and was named an Mountain West Scholar-Athlete for a second straight year.
Here is an inside look at Guibor's Bulldog Baseball experience, from his favorite memories to his 2017 season expectations, and what his large senior class has meant to the program.
Q: What are some team goals for 2017?
Guibor: We want to win the Mountain West again. After that, winning a regional or hosting one would be the next goal.Â

Q: What is your favorite memory as Bulldog?
Guibor: Winning the regular season Mountain West Championship last year.

Q: What kind of impact is this large senior class looking to make this season?
Guibor: There's lots of team chemistry and its nice to know that there are guys on the field who know what they're doing. Having that experience helps keeping us moving forward.

Q: What's your favorite song to get warmed up to?
Guibor:Â I would say my favorite song is For my Dogs by Waka Flocka.

Q: What opponent are you most excited to play this season?
Guibor: New Mexico, because they are always our biggest challenge and its always a good match up for us.

Q: What Major League player (s) you looked up to as a kid?
Guibor: I really looked up to Kole Calhoun (Angels) & Dustin Pedroia (Red Sox) because they work extremely hard and you can see it on the field

Q: What are your plans after college?
Guibor: Hopefully, moving onto the next level in baseball. If not, my next plan is to start working in sports marketing or communications.
