LAS VEGAS – In a low-scoring affair, Fresno State dropped its regular-season finale, 54-38, to UNLV on Friday evening at Cox Pavilion.
Â
UNLV jumped out to an early lead as Fresno State was unable to get anything going offensively as they made just 1-of-10 to start the night and turned the ball over seven times during the opening period as they trailed 12-5. As the Lady Rebels extended their lead to 11 two minutes into the second, the 'Dogs began to get things going as they knocked down five of their next seven shots during a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 16-15 with 4:26 on the clock.
Â
UNLV answered back with a 6-0 spurt until Candice White dropped in a 3 and Faz Davalos followed with bucket as the Bulldogs closed to 22-20 at the half.
Â
Like the first quarter, Fresno State struggled on offense, missing its first six shots. The Bulldogs did not find the bottom of the net until 2:09 was remaining in the quarter as the 'Dogs as they scored five points for the second quarter in the game.
Â
UNLV took a 12-point lead into the final quarter and extended it to 16 a minute in. The 'Dogs fought back through with a 7-0 spurt with five coming from Kendra Martin, but nine was as close as they would get the rest of the way.
How It Happened: Fresno State was held to a combined 3-of-19 in the first and third quarters. The Bulldogs totaled just 10 points in the two periods.
