Faz Davalos, White earn MW postseason honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresno State center Bego Faz Davalos was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, the conference office announced Monday afternoon. In addition to being named the league's top defensive player, the junior also earned All-Mountain West and All-Defensive Team honors for the second year. Sophomore Candice White also garnered All-MW Honorable Mention.

Faz Davalos, last year's NCAA shot block leader, currently leads the league in blocked shots for the third consecutive year with 52 in conference games and 98 overall. Both totals are tied for the third-most in Mountain West history. Not only a shot blocker, Faz Davalos has also swiped 27 steals during conference play which ranks in the top 10. On the glass, Faz Davalos pulled down a conference record of 186 in league play. With 317 total rebounds on the year, the junior is one shy of her career mark and 14 away from tying the conference's all-time single-season record. In conference, Faz Davalos ranks first in rebounding (10.9), blocks (3.4) and defensive rebounds (7.2), second in offensive rebounds (3.7), third in field-goal percentage (.530), seventh in scoring (14.3) and 10th in steals (1.5).

The junior for San Luis Potosí, Mexico is the third player in conference history to win the Defensive Player of the Year twice (Hanna Zevecz, Jené Morris), and second to earn it in back-back seasons (Jené Morris).

After a year in which she played in only 11 games, White broke-out this season during her sophomore campaign to become one of the league's best offensive threats as she ranks sixth in scoring at 15.0 points per game, fifth in 3-point field goals made per game (2.1) and 3-point percentage (.381), and 11^th in field-goal percentage. The sophomore also ranks seventh in the league in minutes played (34.0) and is eighth in steals at 1.6 per contest. White currently leads the league in free-throw percentage at 88.3 percent (), which is ranked No. 12 in the NCAA.

The guard from Modesto, Calif., was one of three sophomores to earn postseason All-MW honors. All three were honorable mention.
