Bulldogs selected to 33rd NCAA postseason tournament

Fresno State will compete in the Seattle Regional hosted by Washington and open play against Michigan on Friday at 6 p.m. PT
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State softball team has been selected to compete in the Seattle Regional in the 2017 Division I Championship bracket, as was announced Sunday evening on ESPN2. This will be the 33rd NCAA postseason appearance for the Bulldogs, and third straight.

"The tradition continues and the legacy lives on," Fresno State head coach Linda Garza said. "I'm super proud of our team and our young women to be able to put ourselves in this position.

"We played a tough schedule . . . and it just proves that we were prepared at the end and put together what we needed at that final time. I'm proud and humbled to be a part of Fresno State."

Fresno State (34-21), who ended the season winning eight of its last nine games, will open competition against Michigan (41-11-1) on Friday at 6 p.m. PT in Seattle, Washington at Husky Softball Stadium. No. 6 Washington will serve as the host school and face Montana on Friday at 8:30 p.m. PT. The regional round is a four-team, double-elimination tournament.

"It's an amazing feeling, especially for our seniors," sophomore pitcher Kamalani Dung said. "Being able to give them more games and being able to go to postseason . . . we just kept pushing and stuck to the process and here we are right now."

The winner of the Seattle Regional will move on to a Super Regional against the winner of the regional hosted by No. 11 Utah, which also includes BYU, Mississippi State and Fordham.

This will be the first time in program history that the Bulldogs will compete in a regional hosted by Washington.
