Hopkins, Schwanz seek to defend 2016 titles.

FRESNO, Calif. - The 2017 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships kick off the first of four days of action on Wednesday at Ralph Maugham Track Stadium in Logan, Utah, starting with the multi events. The men's decathlon begins at 2 p.m. MT while the women's heptathlon gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
Three Bulldogs head into the championships with the top mark in the conference in their respective event. Defending champions Kayla Hopkins (discus) and Annemarie Schwanz (1500m) are two of those athletes while Vanja Spaic (javelin) is the third one of the group after grabbing bronze at last year's conference meet. Schwanz's school-record 1500-meter time of 4:13.82 ranks No. 9 in the NCAA while Hopkins' mark of 55.25m ranks No. 15 in the NCAA and is second is school history. Spaic currently has the 29th-ranked mark nationally and is ninth all-time at Fresno State.
