Nua, a utility from West Covina, Calif., comes to the Bulldogs from Citrus College
FRESNO, Calif. – The Bulldogs have added utility Jade Nua, a junior college transfer from Citrus College, to the 2018 roster, Fresno State head coach Linda Garza announced on Monday. The West Covina, Calif., native was named a 2017 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) California South Region Junior College All-American after a season in which she earned Western State Conference (WSC) East Player of the Year honors and was selected to the All-State team by the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA).

Position: Utility
Bat/Throw: L/L
Hometown: West Covina, Calif.
High School: West Covina (2015)
Junior College: Citrus College (2016-17)

"Jade will add to our offense," Garza said. "She brings a strong bat to the left side of the plate and will compete in the infield, outfield and designated player positions. I'm excited for her to get to work this fall and for our staff to develop her skills over the next two seasons."
Â
During her sophomore season as a first baseman for the Fighting Owls, Nua led the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) with a .725 on-base percentage and 1.235 slugging percentage, while ranking second with a .582 batting average. She notched 57 hits, including 16 home runs (4th in CCCAA), 12 doubles and two triples, 57 runs scored, 62 RBIs (6th in CCCAA), 42 walks (1st in CCCAA) and a stolen base. She also struck out just seven times.
Â
Nua became the Citrus College single-season program leader in batting average, RBIs, runs and on-base percentage, while ranking second in slugging percentage and home runs. She also finished her Citrus College career with the second-highest batting average in program history (.480) and leads the team's all-time lists in runs (80), home runs (19), RBIs (84), walks (70), on-base percentage (.639) and slugging percentage (.886).
Â
In Nua's freshman campaign in 2016, she was named a second-team All-WSC Blue selection after appearing in all 40 games, hitting .385, posting a team-best .545 on-base percentage and was third on the team with a .558 slugging percentage. She recorded 40 hits, including three home runs and nine doubles, 23 runs scored, 22 RBIs, 28 walks and just five strikeouts.
Â
While a Bulldog at West Covina High School, Nua lettered in softball all four years (2012-15) and was a first-team All-Hacienda League selection both as a junior and senior.
Â
Nua chose Fresno State because of the amazing softball program and nice campus. She intends to be a nursing major with aspirations of becoming either a doctor or nurse.
Â
Nua joins junior college transfer Dolly Stevens (utility) and freshmen Keala Brown (outfielder), Dani East (left-handed pitcher) and Hailee Rios (infielder) as newcomers to the 2018 Bulldogs.
