FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State equestrian team will be represented by Taylor Brown at the 2017 National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Collegiate Reining Championship. The event will get underway on Friday at 6 a.m. PT during the NRHA Derby at the State Fair Park in Oklahoma City and features Brown among three additional National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) first-team All-America recipients.
Â
Brown, who finished her Fresno State career as the most decorated rider in program history with five NCEA All-America selections, was named to the 2016-17 NCEA All-America First Team for Reining and was honored as the 2016-17 United Equestrian Conference (UEC) Reining Rider of the Year. Brown also earned All-UEC honors for reining and was named both the NCEA and UEC Reining Rider of the Month last September. During her senior year, she went 12-5 with six Most Outstanding Player accolades in reining, beginning the season 5-0 with five MOPs in the event. The 12-rider field also includes four collegiate riders selected by the NRHA and the top-four individual reiners from the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) National Championship. Additional riders from NCEA-sponsoring institutions may be added to the competition from the NRHA's four selections.
Â
The NRHA Derby runs for one week each summer in Oklahoma City and showcases the world's best reining horses in the four to six year age range.
