Six home dates highlight Equestrian’s 2017-18 schedule

Beginning its 22nd season of competition this fall at Fresno State, the Bulldog equestrian team and head coach Eric Hubbard released the 2017-18 schedule on Friday.
FRESNO, Calif. - Beginning its 22nd season of competition at Fresno State, the Bulldog equestrian team and head coach Eric Hubbard released the 2017-18 schedule on Friday.
"We are really excited about the start of the upcoming season," said Hubbard who enters his third year as the head coach and fifth year with the program this fall. "We are looking forward to facing great competition all season long and hope the Red Wave will come out to support us at our home meets," added Hubbard.
After hosting the annual intersquad scrimmage on Sept. 9, the Bulldogs will get their 13-meet schedule underway on Friday, Sept. 22 when they host Texas A&M at the Student Horse Center. In total, the 'Dogs will host six meets in Fresno and be on the road for the remaining seven.
Fresno State will begin the season with a three-meet homestand as after the 'Dogs take on the Aggies, the 'Dogs will host South Dakota State a day later (Sept. 23) and the University of Georgia (Sept. 29).
Georgia defeated Fresno State once, 11-8, in Fresno and a second time, 12-3, in Waco, Texas at the 2017 NCEA National Championships in their two contests of the 2016-17 season.
The 'Dogs will hit the road and travel to Brookings, S.D. for a second meeting with the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State University on Saturday, Oct. 21. Last fall, the Bulldogs, who are 7-2 all-time against SDSU, traveled to Waco, Texas and defeated SDSU, 12-4, in their only matchup of the year at the Willis Invitational.
The Bulldogs will finish out the fall season on the road facing the University of Tennessee at Martin (Nov. 9) and Southern Methodist University (Nov. 10) in Martin, Tenn. Fresno State defeated UT-Martin last spring, 11-4, in Harrington, Del. at the United Equestrian Conference Championships. SMU and Fresno State competed twice during the 2016-17 season and each had one victory over the other. SMU defeated Fresno State 15-4 in Dallas, Texas as the teams met again in Fresno eight days later and the Bulldogs came out ahead and earned a 10-9 victory against the Mustangs.
To kick off the spring season, Fresno State will travel to face Texas Christian University in Dallas on Friday, Feb. 2. Fresno State looks to come back after a 10-10 draw last fall when the Bulldogs fell to the Horned Frogs by an overall raw score of 1423.5-1369.5 in Fresno. Fresno State fell to TCU, 12-6, in Texas in the two teams second meeting in the spring. The Horned Frogs own an 11-8 all-time record against the Bulldogs after defeating Fresno State twice last season.
Continuing the weekend, the Bulldogs will travel to College Station, Texas to face Texas A&M for the second time of the season on Saturday, Feb. 3.
Returning home, Fresno State will welcome SMU to the Student Horse Center on Friday, Feb. 16 and Oklahoma State University a day later for the Bulldogs' final two home meets of the season. The 'Dogs own a 9-4 all-time advantage against the Mustangs.
Last spring, OSU defeated the 'Dogs 14-5 in Stillwater in the Bulldogs final regular season meet of the season. Fresno State will celebrate its eight seniors against the Cowgirls on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Student Horse Center.
The Bulldogs close out the regular season on the road traveling to the University of South Carolina and Auburn University on March 9 and 10, respectively. Fresno State saw a 10-8 victory at home against South Carolina on Nov. 4, 2016 and an 11-5 victory in Delaware against the top-ranked Tigers last fall. With the 11-5 victory over Auburn, the Bulldogs handed the Tigers their first loss since Nov. 6, 2015 and their first neutral-site regular-season loss since Feb. 14, 2015.
The 'Dogs will then venture into postseason action with the United Equestrian Conference Championship taking place on Mar. 30-31 in Dallas, Texas followed by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association National Championship in Waco, Texas on April 19-21.
