Bulldogs host No. 1 Texas A&M and South Dakota State for opening weekend

The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team is set to face No. 1 Texas A&M on Friday and South Dakota State on Saturday as it opens its 2017-18 season at home at the Student Horse Center this weekend.
FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team is set to face No. 1 Texas A&M on Friday and South Dakota State on Saturday as it opens its 2017-18 season at home at the Student Horse Center this weekend.

Fresno State opens the season hosting No. 1 Texas A&M on Friday at 10 a.m. PT as the 'Dogs are 6-4 in their last 10 home openers.

The Aggies have a 9-0 advantage all-time over the Bulldogs. This will be Fresno State's first meeting against A&M since the 2015-16 season finale at the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships in Waco, Texas.

"Our success has come from upsetting No. 1 teams in the past and we don't want to change that at all," Fresno State head coach Eric Hubbard said. "Texas A&M is always a strong team that comes well prepared and will not give up easily."

The 'Dogs knocked off a pair of top-ranked opponents in 2016-17 defeating No. 1 Auburn in Delaware on Oct. 7 and later in the season edged No. 1 Baylor at home on Feb. 17.

Following Friday's competition, the Bulldogs are slated to continue their opening weekend at home against the Jackrabbits of South Dakota State on Saturday. Competition is set to start at 10 a.m. PT at the Student Horse Center.

Fresno State is 7-2 all-time against South Dakota State, most recently defeating them 12-4 at the Willis Invitational last September. At home, the Bulldogs are 4-0 against the Jackrabbits.

Saturday is Youth Day at the Student Horse Center as there will be coloring stations available for children.

Admission and parking to all Fresno State equestrian meets are free of charge.Â
