No. 9 Bulldogs drop season opener to No.1 Aggies

The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team fell to No. 1 Texas A&M 14-5 on Friday morning at the Student Horse Center.
FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team fell to No. 1 Texas A&M 14-5 on Friday morning at the Student Horse Center.

Taeya Harle earned an MOP for her performance in Horsemanship while Paige Barton earned an MOP in reining. The Bulldog points came from Sierra Swaffar, Taylor Dixon, Shea Gilson, Harle and Barton.

The morning began with the Aggies sweeping the Bulldogs, 5-0, in the equitation over fences event. In the western arena, Texas A&M downed Fresno State 4-1 in the horsemanship event, with Harle earning the lone point for the 'Dogs and securing her first MOP of the season.

After an afternoon intermission, the Aggies continued their run and outscored the Bulldogs 4-1 in equitation on the flat. Swaffar owned the solo point for the hunt seat team with an 86-81 victory.

Fresno State owned the advantage in the reining event, defeating TAMU 3-1. Dixon, Gilson and Barton earned the Bulldog points. Barton was honored with her first MOP of the season with a 70.5-65 victory.

The Bulldogs next face South Dakota State on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Student Horse Center.
