No. 9 Bulldogs dominate Jackrabbits, 17-2

FRESNO, Calif. – The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team defeated South Dakota State 17-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Student Horse Center. The 'Dogs reached their highest point total since Jan. 23, 2010 against UC Davis.

"Today speaks a lot to our team to be able to bounce back from yesterday." Equestrian head coach Eric Hubbard said. "We got over the first meet jitters and were able to perform today, the way we know we can. We had some very big scores all around that show the true talent of our riders."

Four Bulldogs earned MOP's at the conclusion of today's competition. They were, junior Taeya Harle in horsemanship, sophomore Paige Barton in reining, senior Sierra Swaffar in equitation over fences and sophomore Natalie Wendt in equitation on the flat.

Fresno State saw an early lead after the fences event where the Bulldogs earned a 4-1 win over the Jackrabbits. Kylina Chalack, Paige Pastorino, Alexandra Dirickson and Swaffar earned the four Bulldog points in the event.

The Bulldogs swept the horsemanship event 4-0 with a tie score from Taylor Dixon to complete the morning rides.

After the afternoon intermission, Fresno State continued its run in reining, defeating South Dakota State 4-1. Allison Nordvall, Shea Gilson, Barton and Dixon each earned their Bulldog points in reining.

Fresno State finished the afternoon with a 5-0 sweep in the equitation on the flat event with points from Brooke Nelson, Wendt, Dirickson, Chalack and Swaffar .

The 15-point margin of victory was the largest since the victory over UC Davis in 2010 where the 'Dogs won 20-1.

UP NEXT: The Bulldogs next face the University of Georgia on Friday Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. PT at the Student Horse Center.
