Broncos outlast 'Dogs in MW opener 2-1

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team fell to Boise State 2-1 in its Mountain West opener, on Friday night. The Bulldogs put up a fight, out-shooting the Broncos (14-13), taking more corner kicks (5-3), and recording more (6-4).
Fresno State falls to 5-3-1 (0-1 MW) on the season
Tori Nicolo, Marina Kerrache, Megan Amick, Julia Glaser, Myra Delgadillo, Alissa Pham, Peyton Cline, Kaitlyn Crooker, Anna Crawford and Sara Jo Ciapponi led the charge for the 'Dogs, with Nicole Theroux in front of the net.
FIRST HALF – Michelle Reed recorded the first shot for Boise State in the second minute of the game, Theroux saved the shot. The Broncos took a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute, when Baylee Blaser scored on a penalty kick after a yellow card against Fresno State.
Glaser took Fresno State's first shot in the 20th minute, the Boise State goalie recorded her first save of the match. Boise State took the first corner kick of the contest in the 28th minute. The 'Dogs followed with back-to-back corner kicks in the 31st and 32nd minute. Anna Crawford scored her first collegiate goal in the 32nd minute to tie the game 1-1, Delgadillo assisted the goal.
Fresno State blocked back-to-back shots to hold the Broncos to one goal. Theroux recorded her second save in the 41st minute, taking a 1-1 game into the half.
SECOND HALF – Fresno State came out of the half firing, taking four shots in a row. The 'Dogs though defense didn't allow the Broncos to take a shot for 11 minutes. Boise State took its first shot on goal in the 56th minute, Theroux recorded her third save of the match. The 'Dogs took back-to-back corner kicks in the 67th and 68th minutes, but could not find the back of the net.
Raimee Sherle scored a goal to give the Broncos a 2-1 advantage in the 78th minute, Falon Miller had an assist on the goal. Fresno State took two more shots before time expired but could not even the score.
WHAT'S NEXT – Fresno State will host Utah State on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 12 p.m. PT. Sunday's game will celebrate Growing Green Day, kids are invited to learn about the Valley's agriculture before the game. Free Fresno State ice cream will be given out and there will be a t-shirt toss at halftime.
