Q & A with freshman forward Maddi Utti.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's basketball team welcomed four freshmen into the program this fall. Prior to practices beginning on Oct. 2, GoBulldogs.com will introduce each member of the program's newest class.

A versatile, stretch forward, Maddi Utti was a four-time Oregon 4A All-State selection, earning first team honors as a sophomore and senior. Also a four-time all-league performer, the 5-foot-10 freshman, was the 2014-15 and 2016-17Â Cowapa League Most Valuable Player and Defensive Player of the Year as well as earning Co-MVP honors as a freshman.

Utti's numbers steadily increased throughout her career, averaging 20.4 points, 8.0 rebounds. 6.4 assists, 6.4 steals and 1.9 blocks per game as a senior at Seaside High School. She also holds school records for career points (1,794), assists (504) and steals (503), and season records for points (511), assists (161) and steals (159).

Q: What is your favorite basketball memory?
A:Â Beating the No. 1-ranked team during state my senior year.

Q: What was your earliest memory of playing basketball?
A: Playing in this the Pacific Basketball league in my hometown and having to wear matching wristbands with the person who I was supposed to be guarding so we wouldn't forget.

Q:Â What part of your game have you been working on most during the offseason?
A: Ball handling, shooting off the dribble, and finishing inside with contact.

Q: What will you be able to bring to the team?
A: A good defensive presence, hard work and competitiveness.
Â
Q: How would you describe your game?Â
A: I work hard on the defense end and can rebound well. IÂ can attack the basket and finish inside.
Â
Q: What is the best thing that you have gotten from basketball?Â
A: Basketball has brought great relationships with people that I'll have forever and it has also given me many opportunities.
Â
Q: Why did you choose the number you wear?
A: I wanted to change it up from my high school number which was 25 and get a smaller number.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
A: I live just a few blocks away from the beach.

Q: Did you grow up playing any sports besides basketball?
A: I played soccer for about eight years and volleyball for four.Â

Q:Â What are you looking forward to most heading into your freshman season?
A: The first game of the season.

Q: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
A: Contributing the best I can to the success of the team and always giving 100 percent.

Q: What are your hobbies outside of sports?
A: I like to hike, paddle board and swim.
Â
