Q & A with freshman guard Aly Gamez.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's basketball team welcomed four freshmen into the program this fall. Prior to practices beginning on Oct. 2, GoBulldogs.com will introduce each member of the program's newest class.
Â
A crafty, 5-6 point guard, Aly Gamez, was a three-star recruit who captained MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas. A two-time all-district selection, she led her team to a district championship and earned a spot in the TGCA All-Star game.
Â
The 2017 McDonald's All-America nominee, and first-team academic selection, Gamez will be one of four Bulldogs on the 2017-18 roster from Texas, joining former MacArthur standout Tory Jacobs.
Â
Q: What is your favorite basketball memory?
A:Â Making it to the regional tournament in the playoffs.Â
Â
Q: Did you grow up playing any sports besides basketball?
A: I played softball growing up.Â
Â
Q: What was your earliest memory of playing basketball?
A: Playing basketball in 6th or 7th grade. I would always go to the rec center with my sister for fun.Â
Â
Q: What are you looking forward to most heading into your freshman season?
A: The learning experience. Being up under the other point guards who have very high basketball IQ's will be helpful for my growth as a player.
Â
Q: What will you be able to bring to the team?
A: Competitiveness and a good work ethic.Â
Â
Q: What is the best thing that you have gotten from basketball?Â
A: I've developed a sense of commitment and other valuable life skills.Â
Â
Q: What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
A: The central location. You will never run out of things to do or places to eat being in the middle of everything.Â
Â
Q: How would you describe your game?Â
A: Very up-tempo and I see the floor well.Â
Â
Q: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
A: To increase my knowledge of the game, get stronger, and contribute when I can.
Â
Q: What is your dream job (not including playing basketball)?
A:Â Owning my own business.Â
