Swimmers record 167-104 dual win at San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Fresno State won 10 of 13 swimming events on Saturday to conclude a week of training in San Diego with a dominant 167-104 victory over the University of San Diego. The 'Dogs outscored the Toreros 167-78 in swimming events as USD earned all 26 diving points with the Fresno State divers competing separately in Los Angeles.

Ugne Mazutaityte won three events and Zofia Niemczak and Manuela Mendolicchio each won two races to lead the Bulldogs. The visitors improved to 5-4 in dual meets this season after their final road dual of the year.

Swimming Highlights
- Mazutaityte had the first Fresno State victory of the day as she opened the meet with a win in the 100 Backstroke in 57.98 seconds. She went on to add a win in the 200 Freestyle in 1:57.24 and touched first in the 200 Back at 2:07.37 with teammates Stephanie Bartel and Emma Monnich finishing second and third, respectively.
- After finishing first in a field of 16 in the 200 Breaststroke in the quad dual at San Diego State on Monday, Mendolicchio added another win in the event on Saturday in 2:17.97 as Lucy Davies and Emileigh Stock touched just behind her. Mendolicchio also won a close 100 Breast race in 1:05.08.
- Niemczak won the 200 Individual Medley with a career-best time of 2:08.90 as the Bulldogs had four of the top five finishers in the event. The freshman also won the 200 Butterfly in 2:03.32 with Kimberly Harbert finishing second and Niemczak led the 'Dogs with a second place finish in the 100 Fly.
- Competing in just her second meet as a Bulldog, freshman Darina Khisiamova earned her first collegiate victory, claiming the 1000 Freestyle in 10:31.87 as Emily Niles took second. The two flipped spots in the 500 Free, with Niles winning in 5:05.45 and Khisiamova second.
- Osianna Mcreed was also a winner for the Bulldogs on Saturday, claiming the 50 Free in 24.22 seconds. She was also second in the 100 Free with Emily Cutler and Tonya Guryeva third and fourth, respectively.
- In the only relay event of the meet, the Bulldog quartet of Harbert, Cutler, Guryeva, and McReed were second in the 400 Free Relay in 3:36.68
- On Saturday the Bulldog divers completed the second of three days of competition at the Bruin Diving Invitational.
- In the 1-meter event on Friday, Irina Nikolaeva qualified for the final with a 240.80 in the preliminary round. She improved her score to 242.20 in the final to place 17th overall. Kelli Funk and Serena Sedillo were 24th and 32nd, respectively, in the field of 55.
- Nikolaeva did not compete on Saturday while Funk led the 'Dogs scoring 230.10 to place 28th on 3-meter. Sedillo finished 40th in the prelims.

- The Bulldog divers conclude the Bruin Diving Invitational with platform on Sunday. The swimmers (and divers) will conclude the regular season hosting San Jose State in a home dual on Jan. 27.
