Bulldogs defeat San Jose State on Senior Day

FRESNO, Calif. – On Senior Day, senior Vanessa Dugan earned one of the Bulldogs' nine event victories as Fresno State closed the regular season with a 168-131 victory over San Jose State on Saturday at the Aquatics Center.

Junior Ugne Mazutaityte won both backstroke events and sophomore Manuela Mendolicchio won both breaststroke events as Fresno State ended the regular season with a 6-4 record in duals. The Spartans moved to 5-4 in duals as both teams set their sights on the Mountain West Championship in mid-February.

Swimming Highlights
- Saturday's meet featured two of top backstrokers in the MW as Mazutaityte faced off against San Jose State senior Colleen Hummel, who entered the meet having won 20 consecutive backstroke races. She would be defeated twice on Saturday as Mazutaityte just out-touched Hummel to win the 100 Back in 55.27 seconds and then won by more than a second in the 200 Back with a time of 1:69.01.
- Mendolicchio picked up two wins as well as Fresno State dominated the breaststroke events. The 'Dogs had the top three finishers in the 100 Breast, with Mendolicchio followed by Emileigh Stock and Dugan, and Fresno State had the top four finishers in the 200 Breast with Mendolicchio, Lucy Davies, Stock, and Dugan finishing in that order.
- Dugan won the first individual race of the meet, claiming the 1000 Freestyle in 10:33.77, as the 'Dogs also had the top four finishers in that event with Dugan followed by Emily Niles, Darina Khisiamova, and Emily Ayers. Niles also won the 500 Freestyle in 5:05.66
- Freshman Zofia Niemczak won the 200 Butterfly in 2:03.93 with Kimberly Harbert and Gabbie Libang following in second and third place, respectively. Davies claimed the final individual race of the day, winning the 200 IM in 2:08.26 to finish ahead of Hummel by nearly a second and a half.
- In the final swimming event, the 200 Freestyle Relay, senior Katelin Britton swam the third leg to help the 'Dogs A team finish second while seniors Ally Short and Casey Kennemann helped the B team place third.
- Fresno State's three divers had three of the top four scores in both diving events.
- Sophomore Serena Sedillo finished first among eight competitors with a score of 315.30 on 3-meter. She placed ahead of San Jose State senior Cari Reiswig while teammate Kelli Funk scored 277.58 to finish third and Irina Nikolaeva was fourth.
- Reiswig was able to pull out a win on 1-meter scoring 288.83. Nikolaeva took second for the Bulldogs with a 268.65 and Sedillo was narrowly behind her at 268.20. Funk took fourth scoring 255.23.

- The 'Dogs will have two weeks of final training before the Mountain West Championship, which will be held Feb. 14-17 in San Antonio, Texas.
