‘Dogs to close regular season, honor seniors hosting San Jose State on Saturday

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State swimming & diving team will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, hosting Mountain West foe San Jose State at noon at the Aquatics Center. Admission is FREE and fans will have a chance to pick up free signed team posters while supplies last.
The Bulldogs will honor seniors Katelin Britton, Vanessa Dugan, Casey Kennemann, and Ally Short, as well as San Jose State's four seniors, in a pre-meet ceremony before the teams compete for the final time leading up to the Mountain West Championship Feb. 14-17 in San Antonio.
"This is always are most emotional meet of the year," Fresno State head coach Jeanne Fleck said. "San Jose State is our biggest competitor and it's a big rivalry as the teams really know each other well. We've got to see some events to figure out relays and where we are going to put people for the conference meet. San Jose has had a lot of injuries unfortunately but we know they are going to come with their A game and give us everything they've got."
The Bulldogs will be competing against San Jose State in the Aquatics Center for the second time this season as the Spartans were one of four visiting teams for the season-opening Chick-Fil-A Invitational in October. San Jose State placed fifth out of five teams in that meet while Fresno State finished ahead of the Spartans in fourth place.
Fresno State also beat San Jose State in a home dual last season after the Spartans earned a win in Fresno in 2016. The Bulldogs enter the meet with a 5-4 dual record on the season while San Jose State is 5-3, though three of its five wins have been against Non-Div. I teams.
The last home meet for the Bulldogs was also against a rival as Fresno State won 15 of 16 events in a 194-99 win over CSU Bakersfield on Dec. 9. The swimmers last competed at San Diego with a 167-104 win over the Toreros while the divers were last on the boards Jan. 12-14 at UCLA.
Entering the final weeks of the regular season the 'Dogs have the second fastest times in the MW this season in two events. Ugne Mazutaityte has the second fastest 200 Backstroke time in the league this year while Manuela Mendolicchio has the second best 200 Breaststroke time. Freshman Zofia Niemczak has the fourth fastest time in the 200 Butterfly while Kimberly Harbert has the seventh best 200 Fly time.
In all the Bulldogs have eight times in the top-10 in the Mountain West this year. Fresno State also has four top-10 diving scores as Serena Sedillo, Irina Nikolaeva, and Kelli Funk have all qualified for the NCAA Zone Diving championship.
Saturday's meet will feature two of the top backstrokers in the MW as Mazutaityte will face San Jose State senior Colleen Humel, who has the second best time in the 100 Back and the fourth best time in the 200 Back. Spartan junior Brenna Bushey has the second best 100 Fly time this year and Brittany Heng has the third fastest 50 Free time.
