‘Dogs top Hornets 6-1 in season opener

Fresno State wins third straight season opener.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team opened up its 2018 campaign with a 6-1 win over Sacramento State on Saturday afternoon at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. It was the fifth consecutive year that the Bulldogs topped the Hornets with a 6-1 score.
The 'Dogs took the early lead as the Georgia Lawson and Emma Wilson won their doubles match 6-0 at No. 1, and Alessia Dario and Juliane Triebe clinched the doubles point at No. 3 with a 6-4 victory.
After a slow start to her match early on, Katerina Stloukalova won nine straight points to defeat Sofi Wicker at No. 2. Lawson then moved Fresno State within a point of the match as the sophomore overcome some late-match hiccups to oust Jenna Dorian 6-2, 6-4. The Hornets got a point back as on Court 6 as Carolina Chernyetsky bested Abbey Watanabe.
Triebe clinched the dual match at No. 3 for the Bulldogs as the sophomore defeated Sofia Gulnova, 6-2, 6-4. Dario and Wilson finished off the match with 6-0, 6-4 and 7-5, 6-7, 10-8 matches respectively at No. 4 and No. 1.
