FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team won a crucial Mountain West match against Colorado State, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Fresno State Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium. A stellar offensive performance from Emma Chivers led the Bulldogs to the victory as the sophomore scored both goals in the match.
"We knew this was going to be an important conference game for both teams, because we were tied for points in the standings," said head coach Brian Zwashka. "We wanted to make sure that we took advantage of having the home field today, and play well in front of our fans. We started off strong and then allowed them to even the score, but I'm proud of our team for rebounding in the second half with energy to retake the lead. Overall, I'm proud of the way this team ground out the win today."Â
As the regular season comes to a close, 12 MW teams are vying for six spots in the 2018 MW Championship tournament. With the win over Colorado State, Fresno State is now tied for sixth place in the conference standings.
Fresno State improved to 4-9-3 (3-3-2 MW) with the win.
