FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team will be heading northwest for the third straight time as they will visit the opposite side of the bay this weekend, hitting Palo Alto, Calif., to compete in the ITA Northwest Regionals on Friday, Oct. 19, through Tuesday, Oct. 23. The tournament will be hosted by Stanford for the 12th straight season at Taube Family Stadium, Taube South and the West Campus Courts, featuring singles and doubles play.
Competing along with Fresno State in the tournament will be host team Stanford, California, Cal Poly, Eastern Washington, Gonzaga, Oregon, Pacific, Portland, Sacramento State, Saint Mary's, San Francisco, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Seattle and UC Davis.
The majority of the team will make the trip as five Bulldogs will be competing in the tournament. Those five 'Dogs will be freshmen Jane Ellis, Ella Husrefovic, Jennifer Timotin and A.C. Hummel, along with sophomore Alessia Dario. Although each of them are underclassmen, all five 'Dogs competing have seen action this fall. Dario and Timotin have both competed in two of the three fall tournaments thus far, while Ellis, Hummel and Husrefovic have each competed in one. Fresno State had three of the aforementioned freshman competing in the St. Mary's Invitational a week ago, where the trio compiled 10 wins overall. The hometown Fresno, Calif., native Jane Ellis saw the most success of the weekend in what was also her collegiate debut, earning one singles win and three doubles wins en route to a Doubles C bracket title. Dublin, Ireland, native Jennifer Timotin also had a good showing, posting two singles wins and two doubles wins. Bissisngen, Germany, native A.C. Hummel also made her collegiate debut, picking up one win in both singles and doubles.
The 'Dogs will have one more weekend off before competing in their final two tournaments of the fall season. Fresno State will next head to Palos Verdes, Calif., to take part in the Jack Kramer Invitational at the Jack Kramer Tennis Club on Thursday, Nov. 1, through Sunday, November 4. The final fall tournament for the Bulldogs will be the San Diego State Invitational, which will be held at the Aztec Tennis Complex in San Diego, Calif., on Friday, Nov. 9, through Sunday, Nov. 11.
