BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Freshman Brenda Diaz Martinez won the 400 Individual Medley, recording the fourth fastest time in the event in program history, to lead Fresno State at the CSUB Sprint Classic on Friday afternoon in Bakersfield.

The Bulldogs placed fourth in the meet as a team, finishing ahead of host CSU Bakersfield. The meet contained 50 yard sprint races in each stroke as well as IM races and three team relays. Hawaii, UC Santa Barbara, and San Jose State also took part.

Highlights
- Diaz Martinez won the 400 IM in a field of 30 with a time of 4:24.91, more than two and a half seconds ahead of the next fastest swimmer. She had the fourth fastest 400 IM time in program history while teammate Lucy Davies, who recorded the second best time in program history last year, placed fourth on Friday in 4:30.56.
- Junior Manuela Mendolicchio led the 'Dogs with a third place finish in the 50 Breast in 30.03. Freshman Jannae Torres took 7th in a field of 20.
- Mendolicchio also had the top Fresno State time in the 100 IM, placing 10th in 1:00.24 to record the fifth best time in the event in program history. Diaz Martinez was just behind at 1:00.41.
- In the 50 Back, senior Ugne Mazutaityte took fifth in 26.91. Senior Osianna McReed led the 'Dogs in both the 50 Fly (26.04), placing ninth with Kimberly Harbert just behind in 10th place, and 50 Free (24.60)
- The 'Dogs started the meet strong with a third place finish from the 'A' team of Mazutaityte, Mendolicchio, Harbert, and McReed in 1:45.71 in the 200 Medley Relay. The top Fresno State teams took fifth in the 200 Free Relay and sixth in the 800 Free Relay.

What's Next
- The Bulldogs return home for their next two meets, facing Nevada in the Aquatics Center next Saturday, Oct. 27, at 11 a.m. before hosting Fresno Pacific and Pomona-Pitzer the following Saturday, Nov. 3, at noon.
