No. 10 Bulldogs come up short at No. 3 SMU, 15-5

DALLAS, Texas - The No. 10 Fresno State equestrian team dropped its United Equestrian Conference matchup with No. 3 SMU, 15-5, on Saturday afternoon in Dallas. The Bulldogs are now 1-2 in UEC matchups and 1-4 on the season.

SMU got off to a strong start with a 5-0 sweep in Equitation Over Fences. Junior Erica Rosinski rode for a Fresno State team high score and tied her career-best score with an 85 in the Fences, but was edged by her opponent who scored an event-high 87.

Fresno State scored its first point of the match as junior Paige Barton score a 69.5 to her opponent's 69. SMU took the Reining event, 4-1. The Mustangs had a 9-1 lead at the half.

Junior Alexandra Dirickson earned the lone Bulldog point in Equitation on the Flat. Dirickson scored an 82 to her opponent's 81. Freshman Hana Bieling scored a season-high 83 in her ride, but it was not enough to pass up her opponent's 85. The Mustangs earned a 4-1 victory in the Flat.

Fresno State saw its best success in the Horsemanship as it secured a 3-2 win in the arena with points from freshman trio Kameron Thorn, Brooklyn Moch and Hannah Buijs. Thorn earned the first point with a close 73-72.5 ride in her matchup. Moch, riding with the Horsemanship team for the first time this season, defeated her opponent with a team best 72.5-70 ride. Buijs rounded out the scoring for Fresno State with a 71.5-69 point.

WHATS NEXT: Fresno State returns home on Nov. 9 and Nov. 10 to host South Carolina and Baylor at the Student Horse Center. Admission and parking is always free of charge.
