Bulldogs finish third in Chick-Fil-A Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. – Senior Ugne Mazutaityte won the 200 Back and the 'Dogs had two swimmers place third to highlight the final session of the Chick-Fil-A Invitational Saturday morning at the Fresno State Aquatic Center.

The 'Dogs were in third place after each of the three sessions of the six-team meet, finishing in third ahead of Pac-12 school Washington State and MW opponents San Jose State and Air Force. After breaking six pool records on Friday, Cal swimmers broke four more Aquatics Center records on Saturday (100 Free, 200 Fly, 400 Free Relay, 400 Medley Relay) and won the meet while San Diego State placed second to open the 2018-19 season.

Highlights
- Mazutaityte won the 200 Back with a time of 2:01.07, finishing ahead of 29 other competitors. Her time was .10 better than Cal's Alicia Wilson as well as seven other members of the Golden Bears, including 2016 Dutch Olympian Robin Neumann.
- Manuela Mendolicchio won the final heat of the 200 Breast and placed third overall with a time of 2:18.64. Teammate Lucy Davies touched in 2:23.13 to place eighth in the field of 26.
- The 'Dogs also had a third-place finish in the 1650 Free, as sophomore Darina Khisiamova finished the mile in 17:47.95. Fresno State senior Emily Ayers posted a time of 18:26.99 to take 10th.
- Fresno State had four swimmers finish in the top 12 in the 200 Fly. Zofia Niemczak was 8th, touching at 2:05.05, while Kimberly Harbert was 9th, Brenda Diaz Martinez was 10th, and Gabbie Libang finished 12th.
- Ossiana McReed had the 'Dogs top time in the 100 Free, finishing 11th in 52.98.
- After three fifth-place finishes in the relays on Friday, the 'Dogs placed fifth again in the 400 Free relay as Emily Cutler, Diaz Martinez, Harbert, and McReed posted a time of 3:31.67. In the 400 Medley Relay, the Fresno State 'A' team took seventh place.
- Both diving events (1-meter and 3-meter) took place on Friday
- Cal broke all five Fresno State Aquatics Center relay records during the meet as well as five individual records.

What's Next
- The Bulldogs will head down to Bakersfield on Friday, Oct. 19, to take part in the CSUB Sprint Classic starting at 2 p.m. The 'Dogs are back home to host Nevada on Oct. 27 at noon.
