FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team will be heading south for the first time this season as they look to compete in San Diego State Fall Classic II, hosted by San Diego State in San Diego, Calif., at the Aztec Tennis Center on Friday, Nov. 9, through Sunday, Nov. 11, for the final tournament of the fall season.
The tournament will consist of eight different teams. Competing along with Fresno State in the tournament will be host team San Diego State, fellow 2017 returners Cal Poly, Colorado and Utah, as well as Eastern Washington, Marquette and Stanford.
Tournament play will begin with doubles at 9 a.m. each day, and singles play will follow doubles competition all three days.
The two 'Dogs competing over the weekend will be the freshman pair of Ella Husrefovic and Jane Ellis. Despite the freshman tag, each of the two have gained experience this fall, both competing in two tournaments thus far. Husrefovic, a Queensland, Australia, native, competed in the Nike Cal Invitational and the ITA Northwest Regionals, notching one singles win and two doubles wins through both tournaments. Ellis, a home-grown Fresno, Calif., native, competed in the Saint Mary's Invitational and the ITA Northwest regionals, picking up three wins in singles and in doubles throughout the tournaments
On day one, Husrefovic and Ellis will team up against Colorado's Monica Malinen and Megan Forster in doubles flight A. Husrefovic will later take on Cal Poly's Susanne Boyden in singles flight A, followed by a matchup of Ellis and Utah's Leah Heimuli in singles flight F. Winners of each match will advance to their respective flight's semifinals, while losers will drop into their flight's consolation bracket.
The initial tournament bracket is provided here, and results will be posted at the end of each day. Admission to the San Diego State Fall Classic II is free. Fans are encouraged to park in P7 on the corner of 55th Street and Montezuma Road. The Aztec Tennis Center is located just beyond Tony Gwynn Stadium, SDSU Softball Stadium and the Aztec Aquaplex on the northwest edge of campus.
Should fans be interested in parking options, San Diego State University has multiple options listed below.
New Parking Options in Effect at SDSU
There are three ways to pay for parking at San Diego State – in advance, day-of by the PayByPhone app and day-of at pay stations around campus. For those interested in paying in advance, visitors can purchase a permit online through Parking & Transportation Services' Aztec Parking Portal (https://aztecs.t2hosted.com/Account/Portal). The cost is $7 for a daily permit. The permit would need to be printed and displayed on the dash.
The first of two day-of options is using the PayByPhone app, which gives visitors the option of purchasing parking in all student and visitor lots. The app requires payment and vehicle information, and once that is complete, customers can choose a location on campus to park and pay through the app. The app also has the ability to send a text message when the permit is set to expire and allows for an extension of time. Through the app, it is $3 per hour plus a $0.35 per-transaction fee for 1-4 hours and $15 plus the $0.35 per-transaction fee for a 5-10-hour block.
The second day-of method is at pay stations located at CSL (Parking Info Booth), P3 Level 1, P7 Level 2 (structure closest to athletics facilities) and P12 Level 8. Permits purchased at any of these locations are valid in any student or visitor lot and require license plate information before the transaction is complete. The permit does not need to be printed since the license plate information will be entered in the system. Visitors who use credit card for payment instead of cash can opt in and have the system send a reminder text when the permit is set to expire with the ability to extend the time. There are no transaction fees at the pay station other than a $0.25 addition for those who extend their time.
