LAS VEGAS – The Fresno State football team hit the halfway point of bowl week on Thursday, leading up to Saturday's 2018 Mitsubishi Motors Las Vegas Bowl against Arizona State. The Bulldogs began day three with an opportunity to give back to the community with the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation, moved on to their third practice of the week and wrapped up the day gathering in the team hotel for an ESports Challenge and to pick out their bowl gifts.
The day got underway with eight Bulldogs visiting C.P. Squires Elementary School in North Las Vegas. They joined Goodie Two Shoes to provide underprivileged children with new shoes and new toys prior to the holiday season. The 'Dogs also had the chance to go out to the playground to show the children some of the same fundamental football drills they go through.
Freshman defensive lineman Matt Kjeldgaard for one enjoyed his time at the event, "Today was an amazing opportunity to meet some of the kids of Las Vegas," he said. "We were able to give them shoes and toys. Today showed what kind of impact we can have as players on the community."Â
With only two days left until the bowl game, the Bulldogs held it last full day of practice during the afternoon in preparation for its final game with a walkthrough to come on Friday. A 12th win would not only clinch the most wins in program history, but a great chance to finish the season ranked for the first time since 2004.
The day concluded with an ESports Challenge and gift suite. The team had a fun-filled night playing a variety of video games in the players' lounge while also getting to peruse a number of bowl gift options to take home.
Junior defensive back Juju Hughes chose to do something special with his bowl gift.
"I wanted the Air Pods, but my Mom's birthday is coming up", said Hughes. "I decided to get her the Michael Kors bracelet that was offered."
Friday will prove to be an eventful day for Fresno State after its morning walkthrough. Head Coach Jeff Tedford, Marcus McMaryion and George Helmuth will answer questions from the media at a press conference which will be followed by a luncheon that both teams will attend. It will be highlighted by guest speaker Trent Dilfer, former Fresno State great and Super Bowl champion. The day will finish with the Fremont Experience Pep Rally, an opportunity for both teams and fans to get excited about Saturday's game.
