Junior is one of two nationally ranked players in the Mountain West.
FRESNO, Calif. – After facing four nationally ranked opponents in her last four matches, defeating one, Fresno State's Emma Wilson earned the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association national ranking of her career, coming in at No. 125. The junior sits at 13-9 overall on the year after the first rankings were released by the ITA this week.
Â
Moving into the No. 1 singles position to start the year, Wilson has quickly faced the toughest string of competition in her career. After facing then-No. 7 Samantha Harris of Duke in North Carolina, the junior picked up the biggest singles win of her career over then-No. 47 Elyse Lavender of LSU in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The following week she had faced then-No. 6 Stacey Fung of Washington and then-No. 65 Julia O'Loughlin of Denver.
Â
"I'm really happy to get a ranking in both singles and doubles," Wilson said. "I'm excited for the rest of the season and to see the hard work paying off."
Â
Wilson also came in at No. 55 in the ITA's doubles rankings alongside teammate Georgia Lawson.
