'Dogs down Pioneers 14-7

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fresno State women's lacrosse team defeated Sacred Heart University 14-7 on the road, Saturday morning. The 'Dogs were led by Tiffiny Wallace and Sarah Bloise who combined for eight goals in the matchup.
"Today was a great team win," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "We had a lot of energy on the field. Laurel Maunder was a leader on defense with 11 saves, and as a defensive unit we held Sacred Heart scoreless in the first half. We are looking forward to continue this success throughout our roadtrip."Â
Fresno State improves to 4-2 on the season.
Marina Mayo and Mackenzie Wallevand both notched two goals. Hannah Krats and Kayla Galet scored one goal apiece to round out scoring for the 'Dogs.
FIRST HALF
Wallace, Bloise, Mayo, Wallevand, Krats, Galet, Ryleigh Bone, Olivia Mannon, Alex Romanowski, Abigail Bergevin and Kennedy Mulvaney chalked the start for Fresno State, with Laurel Maunder in the goal.
The 'Dogs started the game firing on the offensive end. Fresno State controlled the pace of the game in the first half, highlighted by Wallace scoring three consecutive goals for her third hat trick of the season.
Fresno State's defense held Sacred Heart scoreless in the first half. This was the first time Fresno State held an opponent scoreless in the first half this season.
The 'Dogs took an 8-0 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
The Pioneer's scored their first goal of the game with 28:00 left in the game. Bloise quickly responded with a goal for the 'Dogs to make it a 9-1 game with 22:38 left in the game.
Sacred Heart attempted to close the scoring gap, going on a 3-0 run. The Pioneers made it a five-goal game (11-6) with 8:40 left in the contest.
Galet scored an unassisted goal to end the Pioneer's run.
The 'Dogs would finish the game with back-to-back goals from Wallace and Bloise, defeating the Pioneers 14-7.
NOTABLE STATS
Fresno State owned the advantage in shots (32-21) and saves (11-10). Sacred Heart recorded more ground balls (25-17). Both teams recorded 11 draw controls in the game.
On offense, Wallace and Bloise led the charge for the 'Dogs. Wallace had four goals, one assist, five points and seven shots. Bloise recorded four goals, two assists, six points, nine shots, one ground ball, one draw control and one caused turnover.
On defense, Mannon led Fresno State with a team-high five draw controls. She also recorded two ground balls.
In the goal, Maunder recorded 11 saves in 54:32.
