Bulldogs to face CSU Bakersfield in WBI

First round matchup to be played Wednesday night at the Icardo Center.
FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's basketball team will extend its season as the Bulldogs were selected to play in the Women's Basketball Invitational, the tournament committee announced Monday evening. The 'Dogs will not have to travel far for the first round as they will face WAC runner-up CSU Bakersfield (18-13, 10-4) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Icardo Center.

Fresno State will be making their 16 postseason appearance and first in the WBI. The Bulldogs finished the regular season 16-14, placing fourth in the Mountain West and were 11-7 in the league. Picked to finish seventh in the MW preseason coaches' poll, the 11th-youngest team in the nation surpassed the predicted result and finished three games above their conference win total from the 2016-17 season (8).

Fresno State features no seniors on its roster this year and played a NCAA-high 23 games with three true freshmen in its starting lineup. The Bulldogs were led by All-Mountain West selection Candice White, who led the league in scoring at 17.9 points per game as a junior, and MW All-Freshmen Team selections, Aly Gamez and Maddi Utti. Gamez, Utti and sophomore Kristina Cavey all averaged just over nine points per game this season.

Tickets will also be available on a walk-up basis at the Icardo Center box office the night of the game. General Admission tickets are $12 for Adults, $8 for Seniors (60+) and Youth (6-17), and $5 for Super Youth (3-5). Ages 2 and under do not require a ticket.Â

The winner of the CSU Bakersfield-Fresno State game will face the winner of the UC Irvine-Nevada game at a site to be determined.
